Dear Black People Pt I
There are issues within our community at play that have kept me up at night. Some of those issues are the same my grandfather and grandmother faced, and the same ones their parents faced.
I’m not here to preach, even though it may come off as such. I am no person nor man raised above the next brotha or sister, and as my community hurts and feels. As do I.
In the past I considered black history month to be something of a pacifier. The shortest month given to a small population of Jim Crowe survivors to make it seem as we have a voice in society.
However this past February I spent sometime obsrving it, studying more about us, even, slanging around the phrase “It's Black History Month, respect me”.
I found it funny.
The homies found it funny.
The Anglo Saxons found it funny.
But I digress, it is said, that as you speak and think you shall become.
This is the natural order of our universe.
This is physics.
This is thermodynamics 101.
Not philosophy.
And as I spoke the phrase the weight of my life time and the lives that came before me weighed heavy on me. Those lives that gave up the ghost to shield me….to shield us became a planet to carry on my back.
The month is up.
We even got 29 days….a leap year.
Yet, I ain’t laughing no more.
The mockery of us and all we have endured and blossomed out of is no longer a laughing matter. The destruction of our spirits and all we have created for this country and the world isn’t funny.
Black bodies begging for the scraps of their very own creations isn’t funny.
These new battle cries about riding down on the opps, when the opps look just like you, isn’t FUCKING FUNNY.
R.I.P. Nipsy
It isn’t funny because we’re too dope; too naturally gifted, too aware, to forgiving, too full of love, too brilliant….
But our actions are a world apart from our internal workings.
The black community as a whole needs some healing.
1. It makes no sense how we earn the least in this country but spend the most.
2.It makes no sense. That we created all forms of music and culture for this country and own no shares of it. (Not even jayz, Mike Jackson estate, nor prince owns a share...as masters are not shares.)
3.It makes no sense that such a high margin of inner city black boys and girls can't read.
4. It makes no sense that such a high level of black boys and girls make up so many new cases for hiv and Chlamydia.
The issue at hand is that when you go up to an elder in our community, or even a younger parent and attempt to hold them accountable or even offer access to therapy.
They say “nothing is wrong” a people that picked cotton, were bred to be sold, raped, murdered, split from family, languages, spirituality, and religion removed for centuries CANT claim that they’re unscathed!
IMPOSSIBLE.
Yet we look at the numbers. We look at all the depression and endless wars in the hood and you can't tell me that nothings wrong.
We are already more than extraordinary we just have to uncover it.
Yea. I know what they did to us, and they owe us. Yet, we're now doing it to us....
And that's unacceptable.
We're literally completing the theory of Willie lynch.
It really is about survival now.
