5 Tips On How To Better Navigate Being A Creative
There's never been a time such as now. It has never been more easier to be an artist while at the same time. It has never been more nerve racking.
It feels like everyday they're dropping a new social media platform to steal away with your time. Another distraction to get you away from your passions and in front of a dirty, dive bar, bathroom mirror, to take another thirst trapping selfie (I hatin do you boo boo).
Well....here at Deathrow....I mean The BeautifulMind Brand LLC we talk art and how to become the best versions of our indie art selves!
SO...
Here are my 5 Tips On How To Better Navigate Being A Creative. Key points in which I utilized, and played on over the years to get The BeautifulMind Brand LLC out of the crowd and keep it fresh and blossoming since 2016.
1. KNOW YOU! There's a quote, and I can't seem to Google nor recall it, that goes a little something like "there will never be another you and if you die with your special qualities. Never have sharing them to the world. They will be lost...gone forever"....
The initial quote was more so eloquent but you get the gist.
This is how you find you niche, your space, your own lane.
We all know what's special about us. We've always known what we want and what we love since children. Yet, the world; whether it be a bad teacher, a family member, a romantic partner has a way of stealing our ever loving joy from all that we do.
I get it.
I've been there.
Still, if I'm ever asked "what's more important to you as a creative?" the former will always be my go to answer.
Stay true to you.
2. You can't create and erase at the same time.
Don't get caught up in the semantics of the the statement itself. Better yet, it's a tale of how creatives strive to be so perfect that they never "finish" nor release their work.
An artist must believe they are special.
The uncommon case.
Create and let go.
3. Invest in you.
And when I say INVEST in you, invest in you like you KNOW that money & time coming back.
You see, an investment isn't the same thing as spending money aimlessly. All to many times I speak with creatives who have no problem keeping up with the trends of the fashion world, partying, and chasing the skeezers of their life but when it comes to their work. They act like they can't find a coin nor time.
-Subconsciously, you're self sabotaging due to self doubt but thats another blog post all together.-
Investing to put it mildly is simply giving up a seed so that it may one day turn into a tree.
Do that early and have a bountiful harvest to pluck from later.
4. Live Life.
There was a time I was at a dance convention and we were doing Q & A's and the wonderful Mia Michael's was asked "How do you keep creating? How do you stay so inspired?"
She responded "By living."
The truth is, we have an unlimited source of creative energy but that wll runs dry when we only pull out the goodies and never replenish it.
Everything and I do many everything in your life and world view is a catalyst for creativity; that breakup, that car wreck, getting fired from your work, finding new work, travel, a new song, the love of a new pet, etc.
You get the point.
One must fail.
One must thrive.
One must sit.
In order to create.
5. Be Boring.
I don't know if you know this but I'm an advent book reader. With that said I once read a book called Steal Like An Artist.
So good.
And one of the chapters was named -Be Boring It's The Only Way To Get Work Done-
& baby when I tell you, I think that man was inspired by my life, I mean it. While I do create like a man on fire. I party just as hard.
Did I mention that Basquiat was the artist I modeled my life around. IYKYK
Just saying....at times you really aren't missing out on anything at all. At times it's best to just stay in the house and work on you.
Sip some wine or beer, play your favorite music, and get busy on your medium. Shid....make a day of it. Invite your friends or lover over to work parallel to you.
